An article on New York Magazine’s blog ‘The Cut’ just came out supporting the statement that women are more attached to their shoes than their lovers. It was reaveled in a recent study that 92% of 1,000 remember the first pair of shoes that they purchased with their own money but less than two thirds remember the name of the subject of their first kiss.
“People always think of women storing old love letters in a shoebox, but in many cases, the shoes themselves are even more precious.” states Glendon Lloyd, who commissioned the survey, “Women treat shoes like best friends. And it seems their footwear memories last longer than those of their past lovers.”
Also, 96 per cent of women said they regretted having thrown away a pair of shoes, while only 15 per cent felt sorry at dumping a boyfriend.
I, of course, am an obsessive shoe shopper, a Louboutin-a-holic, a believer in the fact that it’s perfectly normal to own 50+ pairs of shoes…and though I do have many memories associated with my footwear and the buying of said footwear, they do not overwhelm my other memories. Though, I am young and have no forsight into the future, I could very easily turn into the old woman that lived in a shoe…literally and figuratively.
